The Development of ACE for Discovery II 2000-01-0091

This paper offers some insight into the design and development of the Active Cornering Enhancement system introduced for the first time on Land Rover Discovery II, launched in the final quarter of 1998.
The design of the system was targeted to meet the special requirements of a sport utility vehicle to perform well both on and off road. In particular there was an intention to make the vehicle more car-like to drive on road. Additionally there was also a desire to enhance the off road performance by improving the axle articulation.
This paper gives some details of the design methodology used and the results obtained from the design exercise.
