Delivered Oil Performance Quality Characteristics: Virgin and Rerefined Oil-Case Study of the United States Postal Service Northeast Area 2000-01-2945

The United States Postal Service (USPS) operates over 17,000 vehicles in the Northeast Area on rerefined oil. In June of 1998 the USPS conducted an engine oil performance quality analysis of rerefined and virgin oil products to ensure that oil quality was not contributing to an unexplained number of engine failures in the Connecticut Performance Cluster. The intent of the program was to evaluate performance-related characteristics of virgin and rerefined engine oils currently being used by the USPS in its fleet operations and to compare these characteristics to established industry standards.
