Control of the Transmission Ratio Derivative in Passenger Car Powertrain with CVT 2001-01-1159

The continuously variable transmission (CVT) differs from the traditional automatic transmission (AT) in that it introduces an additional degree of freedom - the transmission ratio derivative (TRD) - into the control system. Based on the derived equation expressing dynamics of a car with CVT, the author analysed the influence of the TRD on the drive properties. The theoretical results were verified with the use of the Road Load Simulator (RLS).
