Abstract:
Presented in this paper is a method to calculate the Franklin rod protection zone, through mathematical equations by considering the Franklin rod height and lightning stroke polarity impacts on striking distance

. The method was developed and analyzed for different cases with varied rod heights, and for positive and negative polarity. The calculated results of the protection zone were compared to the laboratory measured outcomes of several protected objects with varied heights.
