Durability analysis of a pulley / Alternator support for power transmission in commercial vehicles 2001-01-4076

In this paper, a numerical procedure applied for the development and durability analysis of a pulley/alternator support and a conveyor belt tensioner device is presented. The power transmission devices are designed for both the engine cooling system and the alternator for a commercial bus.
A finite element model of the support was constructed and subjected to static and dynamic load conditions. The loading is such as to be compatible with experimental loading data obtained in durability field tests of the vehicle.
With the stresses obtained through the finite element model, a fatigue analysis was carried out. The numerical results were then compared to actual vehicle field test data.
