Tribological Studies on Oil Pump Journal Bearings 2001-28-0035

Mobility industry in the third world countries is fast adopting small displacement 4-S engines for needs of fuel conservation and compliance to emission standards. While improvement in maintenance is lagging, complexity of 4-S engines in comparison to 2-S and continuous growth of vehicle population, fuels the lube oil consumption. Improvement of wear joint design shall enhance the engine reliability. The product awareness in the field will add to the cleanliness of engine oil in preventing premature bearing failures and consequent reduction in oil consumption. Ferrographic analysis, study of oil viscosity Vs engine temperature lubricating oil line pressure, etc. were carried out to characterize the requirements to finer level.
