Stability of a Railway Carbody with Conventional and Unconventional Wheelset 2001-28-0056
In this paper a linear mathematical model for a railway carbody has been constructed by deriving the equations of motion using Newton's law. For this linear modelling, the equations of motion are derived for carbody with conventional and unconventional wheelsets (independently rotating wheels). For lateral vibration, seventeen degrees of freedom are considered. Here the equations of motion are transformed into a standard eigenvalue problem. By noting the sign change in the real part of the eigenvalues obtained by changing various input parameters, particularly speed, the threshold of stability is determined. The lateral stability of typical railway vehicle used by Indian Railways has been analysed.
