Freezing Heat Exchanger, Thermoelectric Cooling and Water Handling System for the Refrigerator/Freezer Racks (RFR) 2003-01-2531

The Refrigerator/Freezer Racks (RFR) are designed to supply the International Space Station crew with fresh and frozen food. Demanding thermal and functional requirements as well as the frost build-up in freezers made it necessary to develop an integrated subsystem able to cope with these problems. This paper will present the design and qualification status of the Cooling, Defrosting, Water Removal and Liquid Management System of the Crew Refrigerator/Freezer Racks, which are currently being developed. A Qualification Model (QM) of the RFR is currently built and qualification tested during a Phase B/C0.
