Solid Lubricant for Suspension and Steering Ball Joints 2004-01-3347

The second half of last century was characterized by environmental concerns. People and companies became critical regarding this matter and the consequence was a lot of new requirements.
The present paper will cover a research, which culminated with a new concept of a suspension and steering component. This new concept of a ball joint includes a solid lubricant in substitution of a liquid one (grease). This feature reduces the possibility of contaminate the environment in case of sealing failure.
Besides the environmental benefits, the new design improved the performance of the component.
The present work describes the research since the assumptions until conclusions. Comparative data was considered to demonstrate the advantages of the new concept.
