Comparative Study between Hydraulic and Elastomeric mount, both applied for automotive engine mount system 2006-01-2608

With the strong competition of the automotive market, aspects as quality and cost become priority in the search of competitiveness. Several companies work in proposals seeking cost reduction without quality loss. Several vehicles inside of Brazilian market use the hydraulic mount at their engine mount system, the initial proposal search the substitution of this kind of mount by an elastomeric mount. Following this proposal, we have this article that intends to compare the behavior between the hydraulic mount and elastomeric mount. Besides the researched bibliography, we accomplished the practical comparative study. We observed that the elastomeric mount presented substantial improvement since the seventies improving its isolation vibration performance at high frequency range. The hydraulic mount presents high damping at low frequency range but its isolation vibration performance at high frequency doesn't overcome the performance of the elastomeric mount. Due to the cost of the elastomeric mount to be smaller than hydraulic mount cost, the elastomeric mount becomes great attractive, besides the cost, it should be also evaluate the performance for the user's comfort and studies in specialized laboratories should be accomplished.
