The Numerical Simulation a Bridge Between Micro and Macro: Combining advanced rolling bearing technology with structural dynamics & rotating machinery dynamics. 2006-01-2611

The present work will show a methodology to study the dynamic systems by using the finite element method and the component modal synthesis method (CMS). It is addressing the role of the bearing in any application regarding its vibration generation properties and its vibration transmission properties. This methodology is used to optimize the bearing in the application, both regarding the manufacturing accuracy and the design (internal and external). Whereas there is a simulation program developed that is focusing on all little details inside the bearing. To study complex dynamic systems there is another numerical simulation tool that has to deal with a number of unprecedented complexities in combination, and still a fast calculation time is a firm requirement (based on CMS method). It will be presented a bearing housing structure that is modeled in finite elements and then a technique (CMS) is used to exclude inessential information of this finite element model from the final calculations. Is presented also the structure of this numerical simulation tool, we can distinguish the bearing part, the housing and the shaft part. In the bearing module the unique knowledge and technology is contained: mechanical of concentrated contacts, tribology, structural dynamics, rotor dynamics, flexible structures, damping, etc. Is presented some examples of this numerical simulation tool as well as the validation with experimental data.
