Lubrication System Development on 5-Cylinder Engine 2007-01-2577

The engine lubrication system is designed to deliver clean oil at appropriate temperature and pressure to every part of the engine. An idea developed such that to use oil pump from 4-cylinder engine and low delta pressure -alpha turbulators- oil filter cooler assembly on a 5-cylinder light duty diesel engine, developed at Ford Otosan, on condition that System Design Specification (SDS) requirements of the critical engine parts are met. For this study, oil flow & pressure requirements of critical engine parts are determined. Flowmaster model of engine is updated and validated before verification with Confirmation Prototype phase (CP) Lubrication Survey performed at Ford Otosan. As Flowmaster model is modified with 5-cylinder engine CP level parts and centrifuge assembly, it can be used for similar new 5- cylinder engines with small modifications to the system. Also with this verified model, it will be possible to analyze different scenarios without prototype cost and lead times.
