Abstract:
Due to the rapid progress in LED (Light Emitted Diode) technology, LED has become increasingly prevalent in automotive lighting applications. This paper investigates recent trends of LED headlamps along with various experiments regarding photometric characteristics, color, illumination, glare, and sensitivity. Experimental results are compared to those of halogen and HID (high intensity discharge) headlamps. Although light distribution and beam width of the current LED headlamps are inferior to halogen and HID headlamps, in view of efficiency and design, the LED headlamp will be more competitive than halogen and HID headlamps in the near future.
