ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES FOR MEETING EURO IV 2008-28-0015

North America, Japan, and Europe, where intensity of transportation use is the highest have been in the lead to introduce and continuously tighten regulations. With globalization, other emerging markets are not far behind in introducing tighter controls for both emissions and fuel quality. Several combinations of engine management and emission control systems are able to meet the increasingly stringent regulations. Examples of engine/emission control system combinations as well as the methodology to develop the emission control systems are discussed. Recent announcements from several OEMs that US 2010 Heavy Duty regulations and Euro V Heavy Duty emission regulations can be met without aftertreatment for NOx will be discussed.
