Design and Analysis of Power Train of a Series Hybrid Electric Car 2009-28-0044

In the present study, the power train of a series hybrid electric car was designed to meet the specified requirements of a four seater benchmarked passenger car-Wagon R. The 47.7 kW gasoline engine of Wagon R was downsized to 33.4 kW and the induction motor used for traction was rated at 54.5 kW. Ni-MH battery of 54.5 kW peak with 65 Ah was identified to serve as Peak Power Source (PPS).The performance of designed power train of series HEV under various drive cycles (specially designed drive cycle, FTP, US06, UDDS, EUDC2 and HWY) was tested using a developed MATLAB simulation program. The simulation results depicted the Depth of Discharge (DoD) behaviour of the battery during the drive along the tested drive cycles. An average motor efficiency of 83% was observed during the sample drive cycle tested.
