Development of a Solar Electric Hybrid Vehicle 2012-28-0025

India is densely populated and has high solar insolation, which varies from 4 to 7 kWh/ (m2.day) with about 1500-2000 sunshine hours per year. Transportation sector is a major source for global carbon emissions and also contributes to air quality concerns, particularly in urban areas. In view of above, development of a passenger solar electric hybrid vehicle program has been initiated. The team is currently working towards the development of a solar passenger electric hybrid vehicle with an aim to reduce environmental pollutants by incorporating innovative energy efficient green technologies.
The broad objectives of this project will be to
  • Reduce dependency on fossil fuels, to preserve environment through sustainable mobility solutions, and
  • To penetrate Solar Hybrid Vehicle technology in the Indian Market at an affordable cost.
