There is a strong close correlation between the metrology and industry, especially in the automotive industry, which positively affects the world economy. Based on a local and world survey in the area of automotive industry, there is a great spreading of automotive in Egypt and world. Where, the automotive industry is considered as a leading industry for the world economy. This industry includes the complete vehicles’ manufacturing and their feeding industries for spare parts and accessories. This industry needs a wide background in many fields of engineering applications based on mechanical, chemical, mechatronic and material science. The metrology (the science of measurement and its applications) is considered as one of the very important science which can enhances this industry, where, it can increases the manufacturing quality of the main parts of the automotive. Hence, giving more attention to the science of metrology such that the coordinate metrology (as a core of the dimensional metrology for accurate and precise measurement), can play a good role in that area to increase the outcome of this industry with high quality. Thus, developing coordinate metrology needs hard scientific research work and important issue to serve the automotive community. The International Standardization Organization (ISO) has established some committees to take care of that area to address characterization issues posed by the road vehicle and measurement methods in order to enhance and improve the automotive industry and economy. The main task of those committees is to give the basic standard technical specifications which are required to solve many engineering problems in this area. This article aims to give an overview on the up-to-date research works performed in this area during the last five years. The article discusses the latest technology and being updates, such as CMM, μ-CMM, Hybrid-CMM, AFM, CT and some strategies of reliable measurement and testing in coordinate metrology and its applications in the area of automotive industry. The article presents the hope and expectation in the future in this area. Moreover, the author provided his point of view according to his background for improving the coordinate metrology for automotive industry.
