Awareness of environmental problems have increased on a global scale, weight reduction and high transmission efficiency demands are getting heavier to manual transmission (hereafter referred to as the "MT") for vehicle driving and fuel economy performance. Also comfortable shift feeling is continuously required by customer because its sensitivity performances are directly recognized by a driver which can determine the transmission's merchantability. Newly developed 6-speed MT (6MT) for which is called EG60 is based on serial transmission EB60 which is adopted into a lot of vehicles. This new 6MT for use in front-engine, front-wheel drive passenger vehicles is compact, weight reduced, high efficiency and shift feeling are highly improved that keeps strong competitiveness in the future. 2.5 shafts structure, thin wall dicasting case, significant oil reduction make EG60 a compact, weight reduced, high efficiency transmission. Concerning shift feeling, its smoothness, force balance and cross shift performance are improved and optimized. Also an integrated MT (iMT) which supports driver’s gear changing is adopted. Those improvement technologies are reported.
