The goal of our paper is to look at the effects in the variation of pole diameter, impact speed, type of vehicle, and location of impact in vehicle to pole impacts. First we will use a finite element analysis program to reconstruct several pole impact crash tests. The results from the finite element simulations will be compared and if the results are similar several finite element simulations will be run with variations of the pole diameter, impact location and impact speed using different finite element models. The effect of each variable will be determined. The results will be used to create best fit curves relating impact speed to vehicle crush for each of the variables. The formula created by the best fit curves will be compared to existing formulas for pole impacts.
