THE USES OF BONDED BI-METALLIC COMPONENTS IN MODERN AUTOMOTIVE STRUCTURE AND ENGINE DESIGN 490114
Mr. Stevens paper, The Uses of Bonded Bi-Metallic Components in Modern Automotive Structure and Engine Design, discusses the uses in automotive design of what was primarily an aircraft development. Started during the early days of World War II, this process for the molecular bonding of aluminum to ferrous materials has recently been shown to be of advantage in the design of automotive pistons, brake drums, bearings, gears, clutches and other highly stressed automotive components. The paper also discusses what was for a long time a closely held wartime manufacturing secret, the bi-metallic processing procedure.
