Problems in Valve Gear Design and Instrumentation 620288

The many conflicting factors to be considered in the design of pushrod operated valve gears and their interrelationship with the physical size of the cam and flat follower, together with the vibratory response of the whole train, are discussed. Descriptions of the methods used by the authors to study valve lift diagrams and to measure the valve lash on operating engines are given. A brief review of methods that can be used to examine deflections and forces in malfunctioning valve trains is included.
