Time-Temperature Effect on Jet Engine Thermocouple Accuracy and Reliability 620411
Although jet engine thermocouples have been improved considerably over the past 15 years, some research is required into their accuracy and reliability to the extent of mechanical breakdown. The temperature versus time test program discussed here investigates this problem, using two noble metal thermocouple and three sheath materials. The results indicate that accuracy and reliability are questionable after 2300 hr at 1200 F (less at higher temperature) and that more efficient calibration methods need to be adopted. Life limitations due to oxidation and sulfur deterioration of the metals tested are given.
