Aircraft Communications Electronic Signalling System 620446

Everyone concerned with air traffic control communications has long recognized the ultimate necessity of providing automatic and semiautomatic data exchange between aircraft and ground control.
The ACCESS study was started over a year ago in response to a belief that a digital communications system was required within a short time to extend the advantages of the automation programs on the ground directly to the aircraft. ACCESS is a digital communications system capable of rap id transfer of information from the controller to the pilot or vice versa. The paper describes in detail air traffic control procedures, problems, and the ACCESS system.
