Specialized Design for the Short Haul Jet Transport Role 620467

The airlines are demanding a true jet replacement for the small intercity transports such as Viscounts, Convairs, and Martins. Until recently such an aircraft has not been available.
The British Aircraft Corp. is now building the BAC One-Eleven, a short haul twin turbojet transport, which has been designed around all the features, economic, operational, ground handling, engineering and maintenance, which post war airline experience world wide has shown to be essential for successful short haul operation. The paper examines the special aspects of the BAC One-Eleven under each of these headings, and relates them to current airline practices.
