Piston Temperature Measurements in High Speed Diesel Engines 630093

This paper covers the development of a sliding contact apparatus for establishing an electrical connection with the piston in order to measure piston temperatures. Results of piston temperature investigations on a 5.4 in. bore diesel engine are given. The effects on piston temperature of engine operating variables such as engine speed, oil temperature, turbocharging, aftercooling, and others are shown. This apparatus is a useful tool in the development and evaluation of diesel engines.
