The Physics of Electronic Ignition 630127

This paper deals with several basic forms of present-day electronic ignition systems. Their advantages over the conventional contact-operated ignition coil system are reviewed and their limitations from a mechanical and an energy standpoint are discussed.
It is concluded that transistors and electronics do not alter principles of ignition systems, but improved use of these principles are made possible by electronics.
