A Well Designed Cylinder Head Gasket - That Thin Margin of Success 630284
This paper covers the present state of diesel engine cylinder head gasket technology, by identifying the requirements of the gasket in relation to the engine, analyzing the design concepts of gasket assemblies and systems currently sealing engines, and reviewing the properties that constitute basic gasket materials. Since the gasket must seal cylinder gas pressures under vibration conditions, the spring rate of the gasket is theoretically traced from the original installation, through torque loss, to the condition of the gasket after the retorque operation.
