Structural Testing as Related to Fatigue in Determining Allowable Static Stresses 630329

The most desirable method of structural testing is through the use of static load techniques because of favorable factors of economics, simplicity, repeatability, and minimum test time. Generally, design engineers are prone to question data obtained from static test loads due to a lack of similarity to actual service loads. Presented in this paper is an approach to the correlation of static laboratory test loads to actual service loads, and a description of its usage regarding infinite life design. Future plans and ideas for relating dynamic loadings to static laboratory loadings are also covered.
