The Standard Shaft Seal Test Machine was developed to provide a standard test unit to eliminate difficulties in correlating test results between seal manufacturers or between shaft seal manufacturer and user. Specifications for a test machine that would have broad acceptance were set up by leading shaft seal manufacturers. The performance characteristics of the machine compare favorably with the industry specifications. The major features of the design are described. The developed machine is generally accepted by the members of the shaft seal industry.
