It Does Move, None The Less 650759

The effects of thermal instability in shop areas, static and dynamic loading, and floor movement are reported from the standpoint that many times, the resultant structural movement exceeds the allowable positioning tolerance by a factor of ten, or greater.
A logical relief from the prevailing method of expressing allowable tolerance as an absolute value could be obtained by specifying an allowable deviation from the norm in the finished product (one part in ten thousand is suggested for major assemblies). This, coupled with standardization of shop temperature, would result in a superior product, produced at lower cost, than the current article.
