Rolling Element Bearings in Passenger Car Automatic Transmissions - 1967 Edition 670048

The material is an updating of a 1961 paper, “Rolling Element Bearings in Passenger Car Automatic Transmissions” by R. H. White (paper 359F). This “1967 Edition” has been changed only where necessary to reflect current theory and practice.
Passenger car automatic transmissions have two major sections, a hydraulic torque converter and a planetary or epicyclic gear box. This paper will first discuss the radial bearings in the planet gears and then discuss the thrust bearings used in both the hydraulic converter and geared sections of the transmission.
