The Northeast Corridor Project is the first broad systematic analysis of a region's transportation needs carried on in the country. This paper describes the Project, discusses its objectives, and reviews its progress.
The major part of the Corridor analysis is to try to describe as accurately as possible the transportation systems, and combination of transportation systems, which are possible, and portray the consequences to individuals and the community of each of them. An engineering systems analysis of possible systems and a costing procedure are used to define systems which could be used in the Corridor.
