GOERS: The Army’s High Mobility Logistics Fleet 680253

Modern armies have imporved weapons and equipment. Because of nuclear weapons and tactics, armies require logistical vehicles capable of carrying large tonnages cross-country in direct support of tanks, self-propelled artillery and other combat vehicles. By adopting the large rubber-tired articulated vehicle concept, the U. S. Army has a highly mobile, long life, rugged, easily maintained logistic carrier fleet consisting of an 8 ton cargo vehicle, a 2500 gal fuel transporter, and a 10 ton wrecker. Engineer/service and troop tests have proved the concept to be effective in the intended role. Eighteen months of use in Vietnam have verified the concept and capability under actual combat conditions.
