Comparative Corrosivity of the Automotive Environment 860108

Field corrosion tests conducted in Boston, Dallas, Detroit, and Montreal during the winter of ′84-′85 are described. Results show that the Northeast, plagued by acidic precipitation and heavy road salt use, is very aggressive. Galvanizing was effective in greatly reducing corrosion of bare auto-body steel.
