Digital maps on Compact Disc have a wide range of potential applications, both in the automotive field and in home environments.
They are not simply conventional maps under a different guise.
They offer a large range of new possibilities and features; electronic storage permits the merging and processing of multiple data streams, which are conventionally held and used separately.
To develop worldwide coverage of digital maps on Compact Disc, an extensive infrastructure has to be built up, supported by International agreements on digital data formats and applications as well as geographic data files.
Processing of the digital map data is identical with the standard Compact Disc process, provided that pre-processing ensures an optimal database structure.
