Ceramic turbine wheels for turbochargers offer improved acceleration performance for passenger car applications and potentially improved emissions benefits for commercial diesel applications. This paper discusses the experience gained at Garrett Automotive Products Companies on the development and application of ceramics to meet these objectives as they relate to reliability, performance, and installed cost.
