Research on the Oblique Dish-Shaped Combustion Chamber Applied to Jie Fang Engine 871688
We have analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of an L-type combustion chamber for the side-valve, Jie Fang CA10 engine which has been manufactured and used for more than 30 years in China. The improved performance of the side valve gasoline engine is described in detail. A number of combustion chamber configurations were investigated in a one-cylinder, air-cooled research engine. One such design, an oblique dish-shaped combustion chamber, was then adapted to the Jie Fang CA10 engine. Improved performance was obtained in both laboratory tests as well as in road tests of a multi-cylinder engine.
Our experimental results indicate that the performance of side valve engines can be improved under lean operating conditions. The oblique dish-shaped combustion chamber resulted in improved performance over the L-type combustion chamber. We observed an increase in the maximum power of 10 percent, an increase in the maximum torque of 14 percent and a decrease in the minimum fuel consumption of 12 percent.
