The Hydra-matic 290 five-speed manual transmission combines the best attributes of world wide engineering technology and manufacturing process. The result is a product that sets world class standards for quality, pleasability and reliability. This paper will highlight the design features and applications of the HM 290 which was recently introduced in the new GMT400 2WD and 4WD light duty trucks.
TO SET THE WORLD STANDARD requires a new approach to future product design of both vehicles and components. In developing a new manual transmission for light duty truck applications, this approach involved a global search of manual transmission design and technology. New transmissions have to reflect the best attributes of engineering design and manufacturing process. The Hydra-matic 290 is a manual transmission which satisfies today's stringent customer requirements.
The following paper will discuss the design features and applications of the HM 290 which was recently introduced in General Motors' new generation of 2WD and 4WD light duty trucks.
