Parabolized Navier-Stokes Analysis of Circular-to-Rectangular Transition Duct Flows 881480
A single-pass Parabolized Navier-Stokes: analysis of two circular-to-rectangular transition ducts was performed and compared to an experimental benchmark data set. Good agreement was obtained for the size and shape of the potential core regions, as well as the location of the streamwise vortices, at the exit plane of the two ducts. Due to the inability of the employed standard k-ε turbulence model to accurately assess the turbulence levels in a vortex core, the strength of these streamwise vortices was underpredicted. The calculated solution for one duct was further investigated in an attempt to better understand the physical mechanisms driving the development of the streamwise vortices in these transition ducts.
