Saab Direct Ignition System and Its Cold Start Performance 890044

Since its presentation in 1985, the Saab Direct Ignition (DI) system has been thoroughly tested and prepared for the present installation in the SAAB 9000 Turbo 16 car.
The Saab DI system has many unique features. These are prerequisites for existing and future developments in the areas of performance, exhaust emissions and fuel economy.
Cold starting reliability is essential in Scandinavia and other countries where winters can be severe. Careful analysis of the various factors which affect the vehicle low temperature function is therefore necessary. These are then used in the specific low temperature test methods which we use at Saab-Scania in our engine and vehicle development work.
This paper includes a report on how the Saab Direct Ignition system performs in such vehicle and component cold tests.
