A Second Year Mechanical Engineering Design Course 891207
Contrary to the course curriculum of many engineering schools, engineering design can be taught in the second year of the curriculum. This paper describes such a course in the Mechanical Engineering Department and details the course philosophy, three types of projects typical to the course, and the capstone project which ties all the concepts together. The paper concludes with a challenge to organize an international design contest to be monitored through the International Pacific Conference.
