Fretting Wear 901786

Fretting wear is the wear phenomenon occurring between two surfaces having oscillatory relative motion of small amplitude. Besides being a form of wear, fretting can have a deleterious effect on the fatigue life of parts which are subjected to it. The treatise includes a brief discussion concerning the nature of surfaces in contact, followed by an explanation of the fretting process. Various methods of fretting prevention and alleviation are discussed. Three fretting failure case histories are included, 51 references are utilized.
