Autonomation: A Practical Approach to Enhanced Automated Fastening Quality 931753

A detailed description of the methods used by Potez Aeronautique to meet their automated fastening quality goals is provided.
Each of the parameters that contributes to the quality and installation efficiency are addressed. The following quality determinants are described :
  • Component selection
  • Human involvement
  • Means of production
  • Organization of manufacturing process
The chronology of the manufacturing cycle is described from component acquisition through the final steps of the production process. The overall process is a tailored approach to quality which fits the culture of the enterprise, and conforms in many ways with the principals of “Autonomation”.
It is the author’s wish that some of the specific approaches to fastening quality outlined in this paper can be constructively applied to problems being faced by members of the audience.
