Abstract:
Backlighting with plastic optical fiber (“POF”) ribbons and panels shows considerable promise for interior automotive lighting applications. The advantages over conventional lighting technologies is that POF devices are lighter, thinner, more uniform in brightness, introduce no heat or electromagnetic interference and are very rugged and durable. Also, the POF panels light source can be placed in a remote, easy to access location which allows for more convenient bulb replacement.
