Abstract:
This SAE Special Publication presents papers from the Human Factors in Driving and Automotive Telematics, Human Factors in Seating Comfort, & Advances in Instrument Panels and Interiors sessions.The 24 papers in this publication introduce the most recent applications and research results on both physical and cognitive aspects for the driver. Papers explore effects of vehicle environments and dynamics on the driver's comfort, behavior, and usage of advanced in-vehicle electronics and how it affects driver workload, and investigate ways to assist the driver in order to reduce workload and avoid traffic accidents. Other topics covered include ergonomics, design and analysis of seating for development of seating comfort; hidden airbag door technology; Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) methods for Buzz, Squeak and Rattle (BSR) evaluation; innovative thermoplastic alternatives to metals; and methods to quantify subjective appearance and feel preferences.
