In 42 volt electrical systems, pulse width modulation, commonly known as PWM, will have a major role. PWM can be used in the lighting system to reduce the need for DC/DC voltage conversions. PWM can also be employed to reduce the destructive effect of arcing. In motor systems, PWM can be used to perform both voltage conversion and speed control. This paper will show the results of testing of PWM in these applications.
