Study of Instabilities of a Direct Acting Relief Minivalve Flow Configuration 2002-01-1398

The study reported in this paper formed part of a project aimed at improving mini-hydraulic components technology, in order to respond to the current demands for mini and micro power hydraulic equipment.
With regard to the self acting relief valve (one mass and one spring), this increased operating pressure creates a self-excited oscillation generating air-borne noise from the components and the attached piping system. In particular case, it is not easy to locate the cause. The vibration has many sources of inception and modes and these are sometimes an inherent part of the valve design.
The effects of valve parameters are investigated and the modeling can help identify specific problems and yield insight into stable designs.
