A Versatile Riveting System for Metal/CFC Structures 2002-01-2644

In order to reduce recurring costs and to improve ergonomics and product quality, AIRBUS España specified a riveting system for the assembly of elevator trailing edges (TE). The targeted goals were:
  • • To be equipped with a NC reconfigurable flexible tool capable of dealing with all current AIRBUS elevators.
  • • To have a servo control of the different operations during the riveting process.
  • • To avoid the need of highly qualified machine operators.
According to the AIRBUS España specification, MTorres developed such a riveting system, which is currently used in the AIRBUS plant of Puerto Real to install different solid rivets in the trailing edges of the HTP elevators for the AIRBUS A320 family, A330/340 and A340-500/600 aircrafts.
