New Fiesta: Brake Pedal Feeling Development to Improve Customer Satisfaction 2003-01-3598

To develop a Brake System focused on Customer Wants (and assure a good Customer Satisfaction Index), the New Fiesta development was based on benchmarking databank regarding Brake System.
All Ford Competitors were measured to verify the main characteristics of Brake System for “B”segment vehicles, and the results were correlated with Customer Satisfaction Index.
The main wants were good modulation, low pedal efforts, short pedal travels, high deceleration capability and high fading resistance.
After analyzing all tests results and also considering the FORD DNA(for Braking), the objetive of the performance and feeling for the Brake system were cascaded to sub-systems and components.
This allowed us to develop the components meeting our objectives, and finding the best compromise for pedal feeling and performance vs pads/linings durability.
