Beyond ABS - Brake by Wire Development of a Working Concept 2003-28-0010

Introduction of more and more electronics control into automobiles has been gaining ground over the last three decades. Electronically controlled braking for improved safety on roads has been in Europe and US since late 70's in the form of Anti-skid Braking System called ABS. “Brake By Wire” systems named EBS for heavy vehicles were introduced in the European market in 1995 as advancement over ABS. This paper briefly describes the efforts by Sundaram Clayton Limited (SCL) to develop an indigenous working concept of a “Brake by Wire’ System for commercial vehicle applications.
